India’s six-time world champion M. C. Mary Kom (51kg) reached the semifinals of the Boxam International Boxing Championships on Wednesday.
Mary, 37, is back in action after a year, beating Italy’s Giordana Sorrentino in the semifinals. She will face Virginia Fuchs of the United States in the semifinals.
Earlier, world bronze medalist Manish Kaushik defeated Ammari Raddouane of Spain 5-0. In the semi-finals, he will face two-time Asian gold medalist Zakir Safiullin of Kazakhstan.
Meanwhile, Mary Kom was elected chairman of the International Boxing Association (AIBA) Winners and Seniors Committee. The committee, set up in December last year, is made up of experienced boxers from around the world.
