Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday announced that a new sports complex will be built in Naranpura, an area in Ahmedabad, and together with the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Sports Enclave and Narendra Modi Stadium in Motera it will be equipped to host any international sporting event.
Earlier on Wednesday, President Ram Nath Kovind performed ‘bhumi pujan’ and inaugurated the newly revamped Motera Stadium ahead of the start of the Day-Night Test between India and England. Home Minister Amit Shah, BCCI secretary Jay Shah and Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju were also present at the inauguration ceremony of the world’s largest cricket stadium.
An athletic Sports Complex will be made over a 17-acre land parcel with funds worth Rs 458 crore, Amit Shah announced on Wednesday.
The complex will be spread over 89,000 square metres with sporting facilities on 77,000 square metres. There will be an Olympic-size athletics track, eight tennis courts and one court for international tennis matches. There will be two swimming pools for Olympic events and a special track and field facility.
