P. V. Sindhu and Kidambi Srikkanth reached the semifinals of the women’s and men’s singles at the Swiss Open badminton tournament on Thursday. Saina Nehwal had to roll the dice in the first round. Satwiksairaj Rankireddy secured a place in the semifinals in the two groups with a double victory.
Second seed Sindhu defeated Iris Wang of the United States 21-13, 21-14 in just 35 minutes. Sindhu will face Busanan Ongbamrungphanin the semifinals. Thailand’s Phittayaporn Chaiwan defeated Saina 21-16, 17-21, 23-21.
In the men’s singles, Srikanth defeated Thomas Rouxel of France 21-10, 14-21, 21-14. Srikanth will face Kantaphon Wangcharoen in the semifinals. Ajay Jayaram defeated Rasmus Gemke of Denmark 21-18, 17-21, 21-13. B. Sai Praneeth defeated Pablo Abian 21-17, 21-12.
In the mixed doubles, Sattvik-Ashwini Ponnappa defeated Rinov Rivaldy and Pitha Haningtyas Mentari 21-18, 21-16.
